A good beach is one that offers something for everyone, whether you prefer to lie in the sun and relax or you are a water sports enthusiast. Throw in great food and great places to stay near the beach and you have the perfect beach holiday spot.
But despite the marketing hype, many of Asia's "beach resorts" just don't deliver. Places like Pattaya Beach in Thailand are great for nightlife but the water in Pattaya Bay is far from unpolluted. Penang Island is another disapointment....Georgetown in Penang may be one of Asia's most interesting chinese cities but Penang's beach resorts are nothing special.
Following is Hotelz Asia 's list of recommended beach holiday destinations - these places are renowned world wide for fabulous tropical beaches and plenty to help you relax and work on your sun tan.

The Philippines with its many Islands has lots of beautiful beaches and resorts. The famous White Beach on Boracay Island is a favourite.
Also in the Philippines check out Honda Bay on Palawan Island. Once you've spent a week lazing around in this place you will never want to return home.
Vietnam's long coastline is fast becoming known for its relatively untouched beaches from Vung Tau in the South through to Cat Ba Island in the North. The best spots are "China" beach between Danang and Hoi An and further south at Nha Trang.
Malaysia has some excellent beach resorts, favorites include Emerald Beach on Pangkor Island, Datai Beach on beautiful Langkawi Island and Tioman Island.
Some of Thailand's most beautiful beach resorts were badly damaged in the December 2004 Tsunami with great loss of life and are yet to recover. As at June 2005 the excellent beach resort of Khao Lak (about one hour's drive from Phuket) is still extensively damaged. Another highly recommended beach resort in the vicinity, Phi Phi Don, has suffered the same fate. It is hoped that as these destinations are rebuilt visitors will return again. For now put them on your "wish" list.

Thailand has other great beach resorts which were untouched by the Tsunami. Nai Harn Beach on Phuket Island is highly recommended, as are Lamai and Chaweng beaches on Ko Samui.
Other favourites include Bali in Indonesia with its famous Kuta and Sanur beaches, to name a few. More laid back is neighbouring Lombok Island which has good beaches but is much less crowded.
