If you are looking for a few days by the seaside and are content with swimming and watersports Cha-am is the place for you. There are plenty of excellent restaurants and pubs along the beach and a variety of places for stay.
25 km south of Cha-am is the more built up beach resort of Hua Hin which has more facilities and more visitors but the beach is not as good as Cha-am.
Cha-am is a good alternative for those who want a seaside resort without the sleaze and hustle of places like Pattaya and Patong Beach in Phuket. It is smaller, quieter, prices are lower and the beach is much cleaner. Mid week, you can almost have the beach to yourself!

Being a weekend resort, hotels fill up on weekends and prices rise. It is best to turn up to Cha-am on a weekday to secure a cheaper room - just make sure the price is fixed and doesn't increase on Saturday and Sunday ! There are so many hotels and guesthouses to choose from the best advice is to hop off your bus anywhere along the beach and start walking - you are guaranteed to find a place to suit your tastes and budget.
Bear in mind that your quiet guest house may liven up somewhat when the hordes from Bangkok arrive on Friday night and the partying starts !

Finding a good meal is simple - once again start walking down the main Road along the beach and you will find plenty of indoor and open restaurants ranging from cheap to extortionate in price. Look out for the places with plenty of Thai patrons and you can be fairly sure of a reasonably priced meal.
The best balmy Cha-am evenings are quietly whiled away in an open air restaurant fronting on to the beach drinking icy cold Singha Beer - the shopping and touring can wait till you return to Bangkok !
You can visit Cha Am from Bangkok by bus or train. Hotelz Asia can assist you with a range of affordable hotels located right on beautiful Cha-am beach.
