Hotelz Asia the Number 1 choice
In October 2006 Google ranked Hotelz Asia as a PR4 website. Hotelz Asia - the trusted name for your holiday and travel needs.
There are three main train terminals in Bangkok that will be of interest to travelers exploring the country by train. The most well known and distinctive (see picture below) is the main Hua Lampong station, located near Chinatown.
Hua Lamphong is the starting point for journeys on the Northern, North Eastern, Eastern and Aranyaprathet lines as well as the newer South East line to Sattahip.
Hua Lamphong is crowded, often chaotic, and it is the kind of place where you watch your wallet closely and expect to run into the odd scammer or two. The walk from the taxi rank to the platforms is quite long and porters with trolleys provide a luggage service for a standard fee (with a tip thrown in).
The cab drivers you meet here can be quite larcenous and known for overcharging. Bargain hard or catch the nearby underground to somewhere else!
Hua Lamphong Railway Station Bangkok
To confuse matters, not all long distance trains leave from Hua Lamphong. Thonburi station services the Nam Tok and Southern Train lines and the inconveniently located Wong Wian Yai station is for trains to Samut Songkhram.
This can be a nuisance if you are arriving from the south and journeying on to northern Thailand....you have to catch a taxi through often slow traffic to get from one station to another.
Be sure to factor this in if you aren't stopping in Bangkok but hopping straight on another train - at the wrong time of day it could take up to two hours to get from one train to the next!
Local services also operate on these lines so expect frequent stops within Bangkok city limits. most operate via the huge station and workshop complex at Makkasan, which is just near the Pratunarm area.
