Welcome to Singapore - From 2006/07 Travel Blog
A late but belated report from sunny Singapore. Well, sunny most of the
time with a few rainy days but it is monsoon season after all.
We arrived at Changi airport at 7 am and were soon zooming along the miles of moving walkways that whizz you around this busy airport.
Time to buy some cheap whisky then a fairly easy exit to our taxi into Singapore.
On the drive we passed hundreds upon hundreds of apartment blocks, home to the tiny island's 3 million or so inhabitants.
The lion city sure aint cheap these
days though we are eating in food centers for around 2 to 5 Singapore
dollars a meal.
The most expensive dinner so far was S$78 for two (and that
included 2 free beers) for a crab dinner and lemon chicken with rice.
This however was at boat quay, a popular eating strip in the evenings
with fabulous views across the marina. Actually my S$2 Paratha with rice
in Little india tasted much better !

You can also save a bundle using Singapore's Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) which is a cheap, efficient rail system which links up most of the island.
Signage is in English and you can travel for 1 or 2 Singapore dollars for most short trips.
Which is just as well because Singapore sits right on the Equator and the humidity can be formidable.
We visited in the monsoon season in December, so the humidity was at its peak and as a bonus there was light rain most afternoons.
You need a lot of water stops and periods of airconditioning when you feel totally tired....easily done in a city where airconditioned malls are everywhere.
